CASTLE Helfstyn (31 km, 30 minutes by car)
Monumental architecture Helfštýna castle rises above the valley of the Moravian Gate. The entire complex consists of a number of commercial buildings and fortification. Currently, the castle opened four courtyards. It has five gates, the number of bastions, towers and an extensive system of internal and external walls. Its area is one of the largest castle complexes in Europe.
Extensive ruins Helfštýna, dominating the whole valley of the Moravian Gate, develop it in the late 18th century romantic historians to false reflection on the origin of the castle in the distant past.
Helfštýn (also called HELFSTEJN, German Helfenstein) was in all likelihood the last quarter of the 13th century and its founder and first owner was a Silesian nobleman Friduš (Frederick) of Linava. Friduš of Linava, as stated in hindsight record in the Moravian land files from r.1349, seized (perhaps during the interregnum after the death of Ottokar II. 1278) in this region of the estate of the Drahotuš and built on top of the ridge above Bečvou river, protected by steep slopes, a small castle with an oval shape. The castle was built on an area of length of approximately 50 mA 30 mA wide when it was fortified by a strong wall, accompanied by the South massive round tower. On the north side was placed a simple castle palace, which was outside the cellars still two floors. The entire castle was surrounded by a wide moat surrounding the protective trench was excavated.
