ZOO Olomouc (7 km, 11 minutes by car)
ZOO Olomouc covers an area of 42.5 hectares, currently kept at 1800 animals in 398 species. It offers the opportunity to tour the rare species in five pavilions and many other paddocks, round trip by train or 32 meters high observation tower. Zoo is open daily.
Construction after 2000 continued at the same pace as in the previous period. The big event was the reconstruction of the interior of the pavilion, building gepardího enclosure construction giant aquarium with a capacity of 42,000 liters and the related transfer of terrariums on the giraffe. Opening run-through red-tailed macaques, reconstruction hyenince the South American pavilion, construction of large rysího range and paddock Malaysian bears, giraffes pavilion extension with the prospect of further improvement were part of the exposure of the zoo. There was also a reconstruction of retaining walls and paths from the lower reservoir to the pavilion bats. The largest investment was the construction of a biomass heating plant and water distribution networks. In the nearest plans is the construction of zoo enclosures for Amur leopards, bears enclosure Baribal and polar wolves on the site of the former range elk and construction of the largest pavilion in our zoo dedicated to our closest relatives - the great apes. In 2001, the Zoo Olomouc became a member of the prestigious World Association of Zoos and Aquariums WAZA. After 44 years of working in the zoo decided Director Ing.
